New feature announcement & clarification: SheWritesAI directory, newsletter & chat, discussion
Check out our new open discussion spaces on Mighty Networks and the community features of SheWritesAI
NEW: We’re now piloting Mighty Networks as a collaboration and discussion platform, thanks to the AI Vanguard Society that is leading. Give it a try here (it’s free to join) and visit us in the She Writes AI Public Lounge:
You’re still welcome to share your latest AI articles, suggest what features you’d like to see next, or find collaborators in our in-Substack subscriber-only chat (browser or app).
To be clear, there are now 3 distinct ways folks can engage with She Writes AI:
Membership in the SheWritesAI directory (for people who meet the criteria)
Subscribe to this newsletter (open to anyone), and then optionally check out the subscriber chat to participate in the Substack community
Join the She Writes AI Public Lounge on Mighty Networks (MN)
Anyone can choose any combination of these - none are dependent on the others. For those who like visuals, this Venn diagram may help:

Background
The directory began in December 2024 to help raise visibility of women and nonbinary people writing about AI and data here. The SheWritesAI community account and newsletter was created in June 2025 as a way to better support the subset of directory members who wanted collaboration features. Having this SheWritesAI newsletter also allows male allies to engage and support the writing of directory members.
However, there is zero obligation for anyone listed in the directory to subscribe to SheWritesAI, or to join the Mighty Networks discussion group. And not all subscribers are in the directory. None of these is a prerequisite for the others.
I deliberately didn't auto-subscribe anyone from the directory when I created this newsletter community. And I don't auto-subscribe people I add to the directory. People are added only to the directory after they submit their nomination form.
Some key points:
The public SheWritesAI directory isn't for, or limited to, people who subscribe to this newsletter. Directory membership has clear criteria. To be added to the directory, a writer must be a woman or nonbinary person who writes about AI or data on Substack. Use this form to nominate yourself: shewritesai.org/nominate.
This newsletter and community is for, but not limited to, the members of the public directory.
Subscribing to this newsletter is not required as a condition of being in the directory. No directory members were auto-subscribed when the newsletter was launched in June 2025. (To date, about 1/3 of directory members have voluntarily subscribed.)
Anyone is welcome to subscribe to the newsletter and participate in activities such as subscriber chat. Allies of all genders are appreciated.
The SheWritesAI community discussion forum on Mighty Networks is expected to have multiple sub-spaces.
The She Writes AI Public Lounge is open to all allies and readers as well as directory members. Substack accounts are not required. This will help more people outside of Substack discover directory members to subscribe to or engage in some other ways.
She Writes AI directory members (folks in this searchable table) will have a private subspace.
Private sub-spaces may be started for specific She Writes AI Community activities, such as our proposed collaborative book.
I hope this helps to clarify the SheWritesAI community components, what they mean, and how our community and discussion forums intersect!
